Baby Translator & Cry Stopper alternative: if you want an honest analysis instead of entertainment
Most people searching for a Baby Translator & Cry Stopper alternative have noticed that what the app's name says and what it does are not the same thing. Its store description is clear: a novelty app that records baby babble and plays back a “hilarious quote” with a photo, alongside calming sounds and a breathing exercise for the parent. It does not try to find out why the baby is crying. This page first explains what the app does, with sources, then why people look elsewhere, then what Agubu does if you want to understand a cry.
In plain words: Agubu is our app. About Baby Translator & Cry Stopper we write only what we read on the App Store on 29 September 2026; ratings come from the iTunes Lookup API. We have no interest in running down a novelty app; we only say whether you are in the right place for what you are looking for.
Disclosure: we make Agubu. Every fact about a competitor is sourced; ratings come from store data and change over time.

What Baby Translator & Cry Stopper does
Baby Translator & Cry Stopper by Ninja Chemist is an iOS-only app. According to its App Store description it records the baby's sounds, takes a photo and plays back a “hilarious quote” in a voice you choose; in its own words, “turn any baby-talk into hilarious quotes”. The “Cry Stopper” part offers nature and calming sounds, and there is a guided-breathing feature for the parent. There is no feature that tries to identify why the baby is crying.
Its standouts: a large rating count for a novelty app, US App Store 4.31 (2,065); Turkish App Store 4.38 but from only 8 ratings. Price, in the App Store description's own words: “one auto-renewing weekly subscription option: $4.99 per week (with a 3-day free trial)”; the page also lists a $4.99 “Translation Package” (at the time of checking, US store). Last update: 13 July 2019, version 6.12.2 (iTunes Lookup API). English only; the store shows an “infrequent/mild mature/suggestive themes” advisory. The developer claims no figure; there is no analysis to claim one for.
Why people look for an alternative
Only reasons the store listing supports:
- No analysis despite the name. By its own description it is an entertainment app. A parent who searched for a “baby translator” and installed it learns nothing about the reason for the cry.
- No update since 2019. The last version is dated 13 July 2019. We do not know whether it is still maintained; we only know the date.
- A weekly subscription for a novelty. $4.99 a week at the time of checking; the yearly total of a weekly plan is worth checking.
- iOS only, English only. No Android version was found in a Google Play search on 29 September 2026.
- Age advisory. The App Store shows an “infrequent/mild mature/suggestive themes” advisory.
One reason to stay
If what you want is a laugh with friends and family, the app promises exactly that, and 4.31 from 2,065 ratings suggests it delivers. The comparison below is for a different need: trying to understand at 3 a.m. why your baby is crying.
How Agubu differs
Agubu does not generate a funny quote; it confirms that a cry is really a cry and ranks the likely reasons. The microphone listens for 8 seconds; the on-device model checks that the sound is a cry and that the recording is usable, and rejects silent or noisy clips. Likely reasons are ranked from context, not from the sound: time since the last feed, time awake, last diaper, age and time of day. There are three confidence tiers, and when it is unsure it says so. We attach no percentage to this; we measured on our own data that the reason cannot be reliably read from the sound and explain it on the Methodology page.
On calming sounds, Agubu offers a wider and safer setup: 16 soothing sounds, 8 of them free (white, pink and brown noise, womb sound, heartbeat, shush, Brahms lullaby, rain); the sleep timer fades the sound out slowly so sudden silence does not wake the baby; everything offline and ad-free. Alongside: a four-type care log, age-based wake windows, a 14-day rhythm map and 10 sourced guide articles. Privacy: audio is never written to disk; no account, server, ads or analytics. The free tier is permanent: 3 analyses a day, unlimited logging, the last 7 days of history, 8 sounds with a timer. No weekly subscription; Premium is monthly or yearly. Turkish and English; iPhone (iOS 15.0 or later) and Android.
What Agubu does not have: funny quotes, photos, a breathing exercise for the parent. We launched on 31 August 2026 and have no ratings yet. Details: cry analysis and soothing sounds.
Other options
ChatterBaby
For a parent who wants a real classification of the reason and a free app: the app of UCLA Health's research group, iOS and Android, no purchases on either store. Three reasons (hungry, fussy, pain); recordings are stored on a research server under a consent form; English only. US App Store 3.94 (1,385). Details: ChatterBaby alternative.
BabyLingo
8 languages including Turkish; from 5 to 10 seconds it shows the most likely reason with soothing tips, plus rain, ocean, white noise and lullabies. The developer calls it “a parenting and entertainment support tool”; no method or figure; $6.59 a week at the time of checking. Turkish App Store 4.12 (95).
Cry Translator Baby Assistant (AYA)
For an all-in-one: 48 languages including Turkish, AI chat, sounds, a feeding and diaper tracker; US App Store 4.73 (612), Google Play 4.4 (about 3,730). Recordings are processed on the developer's side; ads on Android; many weekly subscriptions. The developer states “up to 96.36%” with a footnote that it comes from internal tests. Details: Cry Translator Baby Assistant alternative.
Switching
There is nothing to carry over: Baby Translator & Cry Stopper keeps no care log, and Agubu has no feature for importing data from other apps. You can keep both if you like; one for fun, the other for care.
The free tier keeps 3 analyses a day with the full result, the four-type log, the last 7 days of history, 8 sounds with a timer, the safety content and the Methodology page. Unlimited analyses, 8 more sounds, the mixer, unlimited history and the 30-day doctor report are in Premium. Your records stay on the phone; you can delete everything under Settings → Your data. The only thing that leaves the phone is the 30-day doctor-report PDF in Premium.
